You may be wondering...

The 3Cs stands for cultivating conscious control and is based on the conscious control curriculum which is backed by research as creating positive changes in children and their caregivers’ lives.

Yes, Dr Naomi Richards is an NDIS provider and a registered behaviour specialist.

We help you create calm out of chaos. The 3Cs is a curriculum, designed to help children and caregivers recognise emotions and feelings and then give strategies to help self-regulate back to a state of calm and self-control.

A psychologist can formally diagnose children whereas a behaviour specialist does not test and diagnose children, but offers strategies and tools to cope with the challenges of a diagnosis.

Yes, we work with neurodivergent children and those with all types of disabilities and have extensive experience doing so. Disabilities we commonly see include:

  • ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
  • ADD (Attention Deficit Disorders)
  • OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
  • ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
  • CD (Conduct Disorder)
We work with children as young as two years of age and adults in their forties and fifties. You are not too old or too young to learn to self-regulate your emotions and learn skills to help you recognise and bring your emotions back in-control.

On the first appointment, Dr Naomi will write a report and create goals for the client with the family. On the 2nd appointment, Dr Naomi will go through the 3Cs presentation, via a powerpoint and will give a folder with information on the 3Cs and how to implement it in the home setting.

The family then attend weekly/fortnightly/monthly appointments for 10 sessions to reach the goals and practise the strategies and skills given (with homework).

At the end of 10 sessions, the goals will be addressed and clients can cease or continue with appointments, according to the child’s and family needs.

Clients often report changes from week one, once given the 3Cs powerpoint presentation and using the strategies. Parents who take on the strategies wholeheartedly tend to make much quicker and see more significant changes than those who do not implement the strategies given or only do part of the steps.
The 3Cs is a holistic curriculum that focuses on the whole family. It gives parents skills and strategies as well as children themselves.
Yes, we encourage teachers and caregivers supporting the child to participate and use the strategies. Dr Naomi does offer training for educators and carers supporting the client.
The younger the better, but it is never too late to start supporting your child’s emotional development. It is also about the caregiver’s emotional regulation and how you respond to the child so while you are engaging with your child, it is not too late.
Often children are not initially happy or excited to engage with the 3Cs but it offers strategies to the parents and caregivers so children do not have to attend appointments. Having said that, children who do not want to come, often do not want to leave!
The more you put in, implementing the 3Cs strategies in your life and in the life of your child, the more you get out of the 3Cs. It is not the quick or easy fix, but it is the long term and healthy fix!
Yes, the 3Cs focuses on recognising and regulating emotional development which directly impacts social skills.
Dr Naomi offers support during the 10 week course to reach goals, set out from week one, and then is happy to cut back appointments if the goals have been reached. However, depending on the need, children can come for as long as needed for ongoing support and guidance as their needs develop and change over time.
Yes, the 3Cs is a 10 week course to reach goals that are created in week one. At the end of the 10 weeks, the goals are assessed and if reached, appointments are cut back or cease. If new needs arise or goals are not all reached, the appointments can continue for as long as the family needs them.
